The Town that Drove Away

Grzegorz Piekarski, Natalia Pietsch
North Kurdistan (Bakur), Türkiye
2025
70 min

Synopsis

In Kurdistan, the last residents of Hasankeyf watch as their town disappears under the waters of Erdoğan’s unstoppable dam project. Promises of modernity strip villagers of their identities, replacing their traditional homes with bleak concrete. As shepherd Rengin and barber Burak navigate a strange new system, where survival depends on obedience, all that remains is family pride and a fragile sense of dignity.
