Ezda tells the story of Besime, a young Yazidi mother and survivor of the genocide committed by ISIS against the Yazidi community. When ISIS invaded her hometown of Kocho, men and elderly women were massacred, while younger women and children were abducted and sold into slavery. Besime lost her husband and much of her family; she and her two young sons were taken captive and endured years of unimaginable hardship.Through her own voice, and with the use of animation to render what cannot be filmed, Besime recounts nearly three years in captivity and her eventual journey to freedom. Now living in Canada, she struggles to rebuild a life with her children while carrying the weight of loss and memory.Moving between past and present, Ezda is an intimate portrait of survival, resilience, and the lasting echoes of trauma.
