Safoora is an ethnographic short documentary set in the Zagros mountains of Hawraman, following a women-led ritual dedicated to Safoora Khatun, a legendary figure associated with the ancient goddess Anahita. Each year, the women gather to perform a ceremonial, bloodless offering believed to heal the sick and bring rain and fertility to the land.Through an immersive observational approach, the film captures the ritual’s trance states, traditional daf music performed by the participants, and the collective energy of the ceremony. Set against the striking natural landscape of Hawraman, Safoora reflects on women as custodians of an endangered spiritual tradition where myth, memory, and lived cultural practice remain deeply intertwined.
