38 reconstructs the events of Dersim, North Kurdistan, in 1937–38, when the Turkish Republic pursued a policy of forced nation-state consolidation that culminated in a violent military campaign against the region. Told through the testimonies of survivors, witnesses, and former perpetrators, the film pieces together a fragmented history long marked by silence and denial.Nearly seven decades later, these suppressed memories return as a “silent scream,” confronting the present with what has been erased from official narratives. Through personal recollections and archival traces, 38 opens a space for remembrance, reckoning, and the enduring search for truth.
