Rekawt Hama Tofiq (born 1982 in Sulaimani, Kurdistan) is a Kurdish filmmaker, director, and storyteller known for his evocative documentaries and short films. He holds a diploma in fine arts with training in acting and directing, and is an active member of the Kurdistan Artists Association. He also serves as a director at the Sulaimani Cinema Art Directorate under the Ministry of Culture, championing cinema and cultural expression in his region.
Over the past decade, Tofiq has written and directed several acclaimed works—including HUG (2020), The Land of Buried Women (2023), and From Onward I’m Farzad Qadir (2024)—that explore profound social themes and human experiences rooted in Kurdish life and memory. His films have been screened internationally and have earned awards at festivals across Europe and beyond, including recognition for Best Documentary at the Ostia International Film Festival in Rome.
Tofiq’s work is marked by its compassionate depth, blending observational intimacy with cultural resonance, making him a distinctive voice in contemporary Kurdish cinema.
