Rekar Barzan (born 1996 in Sulaimani, Iraq) is a Kurdish filmmaker and director with a bachelor’s degree in cinema from the University of Sulaimani. He is actively involved in multiple aspects of film production, from writing and directing to artistic collaboration, and has worked on numerous short films and drama projects.
Barzan has written and directed a series of short films that explore human experience, migration, and personal struggle, including Story of City (2016), Oscar Goes To (2018), Alone Is Better (2021), and Death Between Life (2025). His work has been featured in local festivals and events across the region, where his storytelling captures the hopes and hardships of contemporary life.
Through his films, Barzan blends observational narrative with emotional depth, creating intimate stories that reflect universal themes of journey, resilience, and the search for a better life.
