Anvar Hassanpour is an independent Kurdish filmmaker with over two decades of experience across documentaries, experimental films, film essays, and narrative cinema. He holds a BA in Cinema Art and an MFA in Documentary Media from Northwestern University and is currently pursuing a PhD in Communication at UCSD.
Hassanpour’s scholarly work explores the concept of totality in film production, investigating its influence on both the form and content of cinematic works. As an immigrant filmmaker, he examines the complex interactions within the political economy of filmmaking. His debut feature narrative film, Demsala Nan (The Bread Season), is currently being prepared for its premiere on the international film festival circuit.
