Synopsis

A century after establishing modern schools and four decades after adopting Article 15 of the Constitution in Iran, the right to mother tongue education has not still made official progress and has a state of ambiguity. Despite many obstacles and complex paths, civil society activists and language teachers are still trying to help children and students who have been deprived of learning Kurdish.

This screening includes the short Hope (Mozhgan Kavousi, 2023, 15 min): a fictional documentary that engages with the danger of annihilation of Kurdish language among the Kurdish people who have been migrated to Kelardasht (region in Mazandaran province of Iran) during the past centuries.

This screening also inclused the short Tomorrow (Shahad Faridoon, 2023, 2 min): a girl talks about events and topics that occupy her ind, searching for an answer to her questions in order to gain the freedom to achieve what she wants in a time of authority.

Director

Sarkew Mesgari
Sarkew Mesgari was born in Baneh- Kurdistan, Iran in 1983. He has completed a one-year filmmaking course in the Iranian Youth Cinema Society (IYCS)(2006). As the final project for this course, he has directed Velenjak, 10th Street, Unit, 21, which was admired by many festivals.
He has recently graduated from the University of Applied Sciences – Tehran with a bachelor’s degree in cinema directing. He has been a member of the Iranian Short Film Association (ISFA) and the Iranian Photographers Association since 2016. Sarkaw has already participated in many short and long films as a director, cinematographer. He awarded at many film festival. He directed documentary films “warp and woof of a sorrow” (2016) and “mother tongue” (2022).
