De Lovan Zandy is a Kurdish Australian film director, producer, writer, and actor. He developed a passion for filmmaking during his adolescence while watching Kurdish films and learning about the political struggles faced by Kurdish filmmakers in the industry.
Although De Lovan is a practicing psychologist, he has maintained his presence in the film industry since 2012, when he co-directed and produced his first independent thriller film, Heli Sur (Redline), with a long-time friend and cinematographer.
De Lovan has expressed his interest in merging his passions for filmmaking and psychology by producing films that explore difficult or overlooked societal topics and raise awareness about mental health. His breakthrough acting role in Australia was in the film Here Out West, followed by the upcoming feature The Correspondent.
His feature film, which is also the first Kurdish thriller/horror, is titled Şewe. De Lovan is currently developing an Australian TV series that explores the life of a Kurdish female Peshmerga.
